The University of Limerick, also known as Ollscoil Luimningh (in Irish) is a public research university in Limerick, Ireland. The university was founded in 1972 as the National Institute for Higher Education, Limerick. It was the first university constructed after Irish independence in 1922. It became a full-fledged university in Sep 1989 with the passage of the University of Limerick Act 1989.
