The main advantage is it saves your year of education but full-time education has little higher value in India in terms of higher education and jobs.

You need to keep in contact with this institute for this and regularly know the last cut off percentage and the number of seat made vacant by those who got admission but did not join.

I went there a few days ago, I'm also planning to apply there. The campus and faculty there are extraordinary but I don't know much about placements.

If you have a mass media driven perspective, IIM looks fancier and more useful. If you have really like technology or science, M.Tech might make more sense to you. As we are not at the stage of rewarding innovators in India, you might not get a good company for research in India, but then the wheel of time moves on and you never know you would get tremendous opportunities in India by the time you pass out. Now, let your instinct tell you what you want from life.

Both the institutes are good, but you should go for a good branch and mechanical is a very good option.
