On Admissions

Q:   What is the registration fee for various courses at Chandigarh University?

A:

Chandigarh University admissions to most of the courses are based on entrance exams. All the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes' admissions are based on university-conducted entrance exams called Chandigarh University Common Entrance Test (CUCET). Further, candidates need to pay the registration fee of INR 1,000 (inclusive of prospectus cost) which is valid only for online applicants. Those who want to apply offline can register using the unique number available on the offline form.

Q:   Is CUCET compulsory for Chandigarh University?

A:

Yes, Chandigarh University conducts Chandigarh University Common Entrance Test (CUCET) for admission to all of its UG and PG courses. This is a common entrance exam that is applicable for admission of candidates in every stream such as Management, Humanities, Science, Commerce, Engineering, etc. To get admission to any of the courses offered at Chandigarh University, students have to apply for this exam on the official website of CUCET and appear for the exam. This exam is conducted in an online mode in two phases. For admission to any of the courses, there are two decisive factors that are considered by the university for admission. These are eligibility criteria and CUCET scores.

Q:   How can students apply for admission to Chandigarh University?

A:

Chandigarh University admissions are conducted in online and offline modes. Candidates have to register via the official website of the university. CU admissions are mostly based on the entrance exam. To apply online for CU admissions, candidates need to visit the CUCET website. Visit the CU home page for registration by paying the registration fee of INR 1,000 (inclusive of the prospectus cost). After this, fill in the required details and select the CUCET exam date available in the dropdown. Finally, candidates need to appear in the CUCET exam on the selected date and time for admission. The shortlisted students will get an e-mail and their names will also be displayed.

Q:   Can I get direct admission to Chandigarh University for BTech?

A:

Direct admission to a four-year BTech course is not possible as every aspirant who is seeking admission to this course has to appear for an entrance exam conducted by the university. The university has a provision to offer admission to the direct second year of BTech through Lateral Entry, but admission to this course is also done through the same admission process. The eligibility criteria slightly differ from a four-year BTech course. The website of Chandigarh University website also mentions nothing about direct admission, candidates can reach out to the admission office for their query resolution.

Q:   What is the last date for Chandigarh University BTech application?

A:

The admission process for Chandigarh University starts with the registrations of CUCET, which is an in-house entrance exam of Chandigarh University. The registration process for Phase 1 is ongoing and will last till May 30, 2024. After the completion of the first phase exams, the application window will get open for the second phase. All facilities and teaching staff are good.
Placements: The maximum number of students are placed in our college, which is very good. If I talk about the highest package, it is approximately 1.7 crores; it is an international package; if I talk about the lowest package, it is approximately 3 LPAs; top recruiters are Google, Microsoft, etc.
Infrastructure: Yes, infrastructure gives a lot of popularity to Chandigarh University; it is highly integrated and provides a global environment. In Chandigarh University, all labs and hostel facilities are good in all proper ways, the food is all good, and every day new dishes are made in our hostel. The medical facility is all good .
Faculty: Yes, the teaching staff is good in all ways. The teacher staff is very helpful in everything. The semester is moderate, not much harder or easier, and the pass percentage depends on the relatively high marking. At least students have to get 40 percent in each and every subject.
Other: This course provides a better job opportunity.

Life at Chandigarh University.
Placements: So as of now, in last semester of my 3rd year, hardly 15 students got placements. The placements are have not met my expectations. I thought that in the last sem, when companies arrive here, they share a form and the college shares that form a with us, but the shortlisting to sit in the placements is done by college itself. I don’t know why they do not allow people to sit in the drive whose criteria is matching to the companies requirements. They basically share the list randomly. Till now, I did not understand the procedure of allowing the students to sit from the campus drives.
Infrastructure: The facilities of the course or the department is same as that of the other colleges. But the hostel’s condition is poor here. The food quality you get is tasteless, the food is very bad. The hostel rooms are good. The main problem you will face here is the hostel’s food.
Faculty: I think the teachers at CU are those who have recently completed their studies and got a teaching job. It is like you will see a new teacher every day for the subjects and the one who was teaching prior, will leave CU and then you and your classmates will be "lavaris", means there will be substitutes who will come for their attendance only, they do not care about your studies. They will come and tell you to do whatever you want to just keeping quiet and to not use mobiles post which they will leave the class. You will have to learn everything on your own.
Other: I really wanted to come to CU because what I have seen in the videos and images is a campus very beautiful which I totally loved. According to the other things that I have shared about this college, I believe that every private college is the same, the only thing is that we should know the institute we select.

Average teachers and good events.
Placements: The placement rate seems to be around 80%, with rumors going around like how Microsoft has banned the university from sending their children on their placement drives. The average package is about INR 5–6 lacs, but there seems to be an issue with the faculty not preparing you for the placement questions.
Infrastructure: The facilities are about average considering the infrastructure and buildings, and Wi-Fi is not available everywhere on campus. There is also the placement of signal jammers on campus in an attempt to minimize mobile usage inside campus, which is very annoying. The quality and taste of the food are very average, and there were also reports sometimes of dead rates found in the cooking utensils of dishes.
Faculty: The teachers seem to not be that knowledgeable and just teach by going through presentations. The course curriculum is relevant, though, and has computer languages that are being used and taught in the modern day. The difficulty level of semester exams seems low, and exams are lengthy but not tough.
Other: Events seem to be the highlight of the college, where many events occur throughout the year and keep the students engaged on campus.

My college is neither too good nor too bad.
Placements: I am currently a senior in my 2nd year, so till now, I didn't get any chance of placements. As I can remember, the highest salary package offered is 4.5 LPA for a BCA student. The college staff and the teachers are very supportive related to jobs and placements, but there is some improvement needed.
Infrastructure: My college is good with almost all the necessary facilities that helped me a lot. We have a sports ground to play physical outdoor sports. There is Wi-Fi available for online classes for extra learnings with a neat and clean environment. It has separate buildings of each department and interior of our college is also nice.

I studied BCA in this college because I am very passionate about this field. The teaching quality of the faculty is very good but some lecturers are not up to the mark. Somehow, we can manage all this but our education system is not very good. They teach us using a very old technology.
