IIT, Kharagpur's electrical engineering should be your first priority when compared with IIT, Kanpur's mechanical engineering.
Computer science and electrical engineering are very high paying branches. Hence, they are always preferred by toppers.
On the other side, mechanical, known as the 'ever-green branch' is not as ever-green as it seems. The demand is not very high, neither low in the current scenario, but one thing for sure, this field is never destined to decline.

I can say that both the institutions are renowned in terms of providing better education for the students. But to some extent, IIT-Kharagpur provides you better placement as compared to IIT-Kanpur.
All the best.

HBTI is a prestigious government college in Kanpur (UP).
Its placements, infrastructure, faculties, environment, campus make it the best top class government college of UPTU.
To maintain its quality it has changed the admission intake system just like Jamia did in previous year.
In upcoming time, admissions in all the government colleges and best private colleges will be done on the basis of JEE Mains.
The aim is one entrance exam for all, just like NEET, one exam for all medical colleges except AIIMS and JIPMER.
