Typically, admission to the mechanical branch is more competitive and requires a higher rank than other branches. However, admission criteria may vary from institution to institution and also depend on the category you belong to. OBC category candidates may have some reservation in certain institutions, but the eligibility criteria and cutoff marks may still be high.
Therefore, I suggest that you check the eligibility criteria and admission requirements of the specific institution you are interested in and see if you meet the criteria. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you may have a chance of getting admission based on the availability of seats and the competition level.

Here are some tips to help you get started with your JEE preparation:
Understand the exam pattern: The first step towards JEE preparation is to understand the exam pattern and syllabus. The JEE Mains exam consists of three sections: Physics Chemistry and Mathematics. The exam is of 300 marks, and each section carries 100 marks. Make a study plan: Once you understand the exam pattern and syllabus, make a study plan to cover all the topics systematically. Allocate enough time for each subject and give more time to the topics you find difficult. Study from good resources: Use good quality study material and books for your preparation. NCERT books are an excellent resource for understanding the concepts, and you can also refer to books by authors like HC Verma, RD Sharma, and OP Tandon. Practice regularly: Practice is the key to scoring well in JEE Mains. Solve as many practice questions and previous year papers as possible to get a good hold of the concepts and also to understand the exam pattern. Take mock tests: Taking mock tests is an excellent way to evaluate your preparation and identify your weak areas. It also helps you to manage your time during the exam. Seek guidance: If you face any difficulty in understanding a particular topic, seek guidance from your teachers or mentors. You can also join a coaching institute for better guidance and structured preparation. Remember, consistency and dedication are crucial for success in JEE Mains. With hard work and persistence, you can achieve your target score. Please upvote if it was helpful.

However, the exact cutoffs for admission to good government colleges vary from year to year and from college to college. To get an idea of the required percentage, you can check the cutoffs of previous years for the college and branch you are interested in. However, as a rough estimate, you can aim for AJEE Mains score of around 80-85 percentile or above to have a good chance of getting admission into a good government college. It's important to note that the competition is high and the cutoffs can vary each year, so it's recommended to prepare and score as high as possible to increase your chances of getting admission into a good government college. What is the procedure to join NIT and IIT colleges after getting JEE Main and Advanced marks?
If you want to take admission to the National Institutes of Technology and Indian Institutes of Technology you must participate in Joint Seat Allocation Authority counseling. A date is allotted for the...If you want to take admission to the National Institutes of Technology and Indian Institutes of Technology you must participate in Joint Seat Allocation Authority counseling. To secure a seat at the Indian Institute of Technology or the National Institute of Technology. A date is allotted for the start of counseling. It will go around for 10 days. You have to be well prepared with the name and branch of college you want to attend as per your rank and fill out the counseling form accordingly. The same is true for the Indian Institute of Technology or the National Institute of Technology's counseling. Then you will be allotted a seat in a college. After the first round, if you do not get the acceptance you expected, wait for the second round, and so on. Last time, Josaa conducted six rounds for the allotment of seats in institutes. But please be sure that you fill out the counseling form very, very correctly, as many good rankers are denied admission to the Indian Institute of Technology or the National Institute of Technology because they messed up the process. For this, you must do quality research on colleges and the branch you want to opt for in those colleges and then apply as per.
Some points to keep in mind are:
1. Exercise extreme caution when giving preference to a college or branch. After submitting, it cannot be changed.
2. Keep a regular track of counseling activity by regularly visiting the Josaa site.
3. Check to see if any colleges have seats open after the sixth round and thus call for the spot round.
After getting your results for the Joint Entrance Examination mains and advanced, probably by June 11th, you will have to register yourself for counseling on the website of JSA. You have to submit your college preference list.
After submission of college preference, Josh will take care of all your ranks and the college you will get. You will be allotted a college according to your rank in the Indian Institutes of Technology and National Institutes of Technology, respectively, according to your Joint Entrance Examination advanced and Joint Entrance Examination mains rank.
After being allotted a seat at any one of them, you will have to verify yourself and accept your seat. In the seat acceptance procedure, you have two choices by name: float or fridge.
In the float option, you will be considered in subsequent rounds of seat allotment, while if you forfeit your seat, you will be allotted that seat to yourself.
After seat allotment and acceptance, you will have to go to your college and register for your course.
This procedure is a simple one; there is no need to worry too much; just be careful with your college preference, and the rest will happen simultaneously. Make it a habit to check the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JOSAA) website regularly to never miss an important notification from them.
National Institutes of Technology are autonomous engineering institutes that offer various undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral degree programs in Engineering and other fields. There are a total of 31 National Institutes of Technology in India and admission to Bachelor of Technology Programs is managed through the JoSAA counseling process, based on AIR rank secured in JEE Main. NIT offers admission to MTech programs based on the score obtained in the GATE exam while seat allotment is managed through CCMT (Centralized Counseling for Master of Technology, Master of Architecture, Master of Planning, and Master of Design).
National Institutes of Technology Trichy, National Institutes of Technology Karnataka, National Institutes of Technology Rourkela, National Institutes of Technology Warangal, and National Institutes of Technology Calicut are some of the popular National Institutes of Technology across India. In the MHRD-NIRF ranking of 2022, the National Institutes of Technology Trichy has been ranked 08 in India. Out of the total, 21 National Institutes of Technology are among the top 100 list. The National Institutes of Technology Council is the regulatory body for all National Institutes of Technology. Most of the National Institutes of Technology in India offer degree courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in various branches of Management, Engineering, Architecture, and Science.
Joint Seat Allocation Authority releases releasing category-wise and round-wise opening and closing cutoffs or ranks for admission to Bachelor of Technology, Master of Technology, and dual degree programs in National Institutes of Technologies. Students have to register and participate in the JoSAA counseling cum seat allotment process. JoSAA conducts joint counseling sessions for students qualifying for Joint Entrance Examination Main and Joint Entrance Examination Advanced exams.
Joint Entrance Examinations' main cut-off depends on several factors including the number of candidates appearing in the entrance exam, the total number of candidates who applied for admission to the National Institutes of Technology, the total seat intake, and the difficulty level of the examination.
Take a look at other entrance exams you need to appear in for admissions to various Undergraduate and postgraduate level programs offered at Indian Institutes of Technology. For admissions to Bachelor of Technology programs, interested candidates need to appear for Joint Entrance Examination Advanced. However, before appearing for this exam, students must appear for Joint Entrance Examination Main.
After appearing for Joint Entrance Examination Advanced, the next step is to appear for Joint Seat Allocation Authority counseling.

Online Registration: Candidates must first register for the JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) counseling process online, which is conducted by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
Choice Filling: After registration, candidates need to fill in their preferred choices of colleges and courses based on their JEE Main and Advanced ranks. They can select as many choices as they want in order of preference. Seat Allotment: Based on the candidates' ranks and choices, JoSAA conducts multiple rounds of seat allotment to allocate seats in NITs and IITs. During each round, candidates who are eligible for a seat are allotted seats based on their rank and preference. Acceptance of Seat: After seat allotment, candidates must either accept the seat by paying the acceptance fee or choose to 'float' or 'slide' their seat based on their preferences. Floating means that candidates are accepting the allotted seat but keeping the option open for a better seat in the next round, while sliding means that candidates are accepting the allotted seat but looking for an upgrade in the same round. Document Verification: Once candidates accept a seat, they need to report to the allotted college for document verification and pay the required fees.
Reporting to College: Finally, candidates must report to the allotted college within the stipulated time and attend the orientation and classes as per the college's schedule. It's important to note that the exact procedure for joining NITs and IITs may vary slightly from year to year, and candidates should check the official website of JoSAA or the respective institute for the latest information and updates.
