Read Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs. Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs - 2nd Edition (MIT Electrical Engineering and Computer Science): Harold Abelson, Gerald Jay Sussman, Julie Sussman: 9780262510875: Amazon.com: Books. Once the introduction to computer science at MIT and Berkeley, this class (and book) has now been abandoned by colleges in favor of an "applications first" approach to teaching computer science. However, if you're a self-directed person and really want to study computer science, no other book will get you a comprehensive knowledge of computer science at a deep level in so little time.
Code code code. Do lots of projects. Pick projects that interest you. If there's already an active open source community building that code, join it. If not, start your own project and open source it.
Learn your development environment thoroughly. The best programmers treat their environment as an extension of their brain, and customize it for maximum efficiency.

Read this:
I attended Linux device driver and kernel programming from Best Training Institute in Bangalore-Learnbay.in (company provide Embedded systems training in Bangalore)
and it was very much useful for me in gaining LDD & kernel knowledge and in interview preparation, specially for tier one companies in embedded domain like Intel, Samsung etc.
Their course content is very good and in-depth, it is more of practical than theory, and lot of my doubts in kernel related to locking , Scheduling and debugging (specially spin-lock , semaphore , mutex, process & memory management) got cleared after doing practicals and real time project.
They concentrate more on real word problem and solving existing bug in Linux kernel, which I feel is the most important thing for anyone who is doing such advance courses. because theory you can get very easily in book or internet.
Overall I would suggest you to attend a demo class in Embedded Systems Training at LearnBay before deciding.
