Surely you can, you can opt for MCA regular or distance . If you opt for MCA distance then I would advise you to work simultaneously in the IT sector, though getting a job initially would be problematic but you can start as an IT intern and should have solid reason in the interview that why you want to change from mechanical to software.

AMCAT score is valid only for the private jobs not for the government jobs and that too not for all the private jobs, a company may take a different test for selection.
