Students can apply for Directorate of Distance Education, Pondicherry University courses either in conventional mode - Jan-Feb or TPI mode in Jul-Aug batch. Students can not change the mode once an application has been submitted.

Directorate of Distance Education, Pondicherry University is located in a lush and serene setting on the Bay of Bengal coast. This diversity of climate and landscape provides a holistic learning experience to students. In order to reach DDE Pondicherry's physical campus, students can take a roughly 20-minute drive from Pondicherry Airport. Rail commuters arriving at Pondicherry (Puducherry) Railway Station would only require a 25-minute drive to reach the campus of Directorate of Distance Education, Pondicherry University.

DDE Pondicherry University has put in place a variety of mechanisms to assist students with financial weaknesses. The scholarships are provided based on different categories and groups of students. Scholarships are provided to Special Reservation Category as well as SC and ST students. Additionally, the following backgrounds of students are provided with 50% Tuition Fee waivers:
