Candidates must have finished any degree (graduate), or an equivalent examination, from a recognised institution, with at least a 50 percent grade point average (GPA). Candidates who have passed the Higher Secondary Examination (Academic/Vocational) conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu or an examination accepted as equivalent thereto by the University of Madras are eligible for admission to the Certificate Courses.

This training normally costs between INR 5,000 and INR 50,000 year. Students study about library management, information services, bookkeeping, and other topics in the CLIS Distance Education course. Certificate Course in Library and Information Science is an initial level certificate course in the domain of library science.

Students must obtain a Diploma from their 12th grade with a minimum grade point average of 50% from a recognised board or other institution. Students from the Arts, Sciences, or Commerce streams are eligible to enroll for this certificate programme in library and information science. Candidates who previously worked in libraries are also encouraged to apply.

The cost to finish the BNYS distance learning programme ranges from INR 15,000 to INR 60,000.
