Of Course, ECCE is a very useful qualification if you plan to work with:

  • Anganwadi centers (run by the Ministry of Women & Child Development)
  • Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS)
  • Balwadis under NGOs
  • Foundation schools under Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan
  • Government recruitment often looks for candidates with ECCE/child development background especially for supervisory roles.

Also, after ECCE you can appear for relevant state-level or central government teacher eligibility exams (depending on guidelines).

Entrance exams for Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECCE) programs are not mandatory at all colleges. However, some colleges may conduct their own entrance exams. Other colleges may consider scores from national-level exams like the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) or the Central Universities Entrance Test (CUCET).

Eligibility for ECCE

To be eligible for the ECCE course, you must have completed 10+2 education (or equivalent) from a recognised educational board.

Some institutes may specify a minimum percentage requirement in the 10+2 exams.

ECCE focuses on early childhood (0-6 years), while primary education (6-12 years) is more structured and academic. ECCE lays the foundation for lifelong learning, making it an essential stage in a child's education.

After completing ECCE course, candidates can start working in play schools or other elementary schools across the country and start taking care of children as their own. They can also run their own private nurseries or play schools or can also look after children especially working parents. Many ECCE certificate holders are also recruited by the Aganwadi centres and other health centres that are responsible for taking care of young children.

ECCE courses can be pursued by those who have the ability to deal with children and have the empathy to take care of them as their own children. They must be hardworking and agile and must pay attention to the specific demands of the children. They must be young, dynamic personalities who are ready to go beyond their means and provide support and care to young children and take care of their health, education and nutrition.
