Apart from ESE, GATE, and PSUs many exams are held to recruit in various organizations in India, such as -
1- Railway recruitment board (SSE & JE )- RRB takes exams for junior engineers and senior section engineers. Although it is a group C job after 12 to 13 years of experience with time-to-time promotions you will be promoted to a group A job equivalent to an ESE/IES officer.
2- SSC-JE: it is a group B job and it is conducted for the recruitments in various posts in various departments such as Military Engineering Services (MS). you will be subordinate to an ESE/IES officer.
3- NPCIL: A subsidiary of Bhabha Atomic Research Center. Every year they conduct their own exams for recruitment usually in the month of June and July.
4- SAIL: It also conducts its own exam for recruitment.
5- Visakhapatnam - It is one of the units of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL).
6- DMRC/LMRC/NMRC/BMRC: It conducts exams for different technical posts.
7- AFCAT: This test is conducted by the IAF for the selection of officers in various branches of the Indian Air Force.
8- Some other PSUs are BEL, BSNL, HAL, MTNL, SCIL, RBI, EII, BARC, ECI, etc. Other than these exams State Engineering Services exams are conducted from time to time by different states.

The Salary structure of an Engineer:
Basic Pay+DA+ perks (Medical benefits and other minor perks, 46 percent)+HRA (10, 20, and 30 percent depending upon the place of posting)
During the training period, the basic salary would be in the pay band of INR 20,600 Per month. After completing one year, one would be promoted to the post of Engineer with a basic salary in the pay band of INR 24,900 Per Month. In A-class cities, gross income would be around INR 60,000 during the first year and INR 73,000 after the first year. If the company provides accommodation, HRA will not be paid. The average BHEL-Electronics Division salary ranges from approximately INR 9,00,000 PA for a Graduate Apprentice Trainee to INR 5,90,000 PA for a Project Engineer.

At the entry-level (Engineer Trainee) level, there is no option other than the formidable GATE exam to get an entry into BHEL at present. BHEL has three levels of employees:
1- Executive: Also called moral owners of the company, they start their careers as engineers and can go up to the director and CMD levels. They have selected through GATE the minimum educational qualification is a B.Tech. The average salary of a Executive Engineer at BHEL is INR 10.5 Lakhs PA.
2- Supervisor: Also known as the company's backbone and the link between workers and executives. The minimum educational qualification is a Diploma. They are chosen from all over India through a competitive exam. A supervisor starts his or her career as an assistant. An engineer can go as high as GM level. A supervisor can become an executive after spending 13 years in the supervisory cadre, and it is an excellent way to come into BHEL without qualifying for GATE. Supervisor salary at BHEL India ranges between INR 0.9 Lakhs to INR 5.0 Lakhs PA.
3- Artisans: they are a strong workforce; their minimum educational qualification is Industrial Training Institute (ITI). They join as artisans and can become executives in the later part of their careers. Artisan salary at BHEL India ranges between INR 1Lakhs to INR 8.0 Lakhs PA.
