Engineering Scope

The purpose of research is to find the truth. It's nothing more than a journey in which you pick up notions on your way to your destination. The good part is that there isn't any destination at all. As they say "the journey itself is the real pleasure, not the destination". Science is about asking logical questions and trying to figure out the right answers to your questions. Now, what does it take to be a scientist? - Knowledge, the craving for more knowledge, the attitude to love challenges, tenacity (my favourite) and a little bit of arrogance (yes, you need it sometimes to prove your point). Learn as much as you can in your field of interest, work with knowledgeable people (we call them 'big shots'), publish your findings, engage in collaborations, be a part of a great research institution. That's the recipe for a scientist in the modern world.

I myself did my M.Tech from NIT and had friends in IITs and many other colleges. So, let me clear it for you. Placement scenarios for civil engineering is pretty much same everywhere, and it is the worst compared to other branches. IITs have much better record in this aspects, as they are consultants for many civil engineering firms. Placements are guaranteed and many professors have good tie up with industry giants. And, thus you will get job somehow even if it is not through placement cell. NIT stories are average and has tie up with industries and consultants to regional companies as well. But, the percentage is like 50%, but it is still the worst. NIT-Trichy has 100% placement for many civil branches. NIT-K stands second and NIT-w and NIT-C are trailing way behind. But, one thing is guaranteed, you will definitely get a teacher's job from many deemed private universities that too with a good package for NIT. They offer 40 k to 50k per month.
