No, negative marking applies only to MCQs. Here's how the GATE 2026 negative marking for MCQs is done -
- For a one-mark MCQ, 1/3rd mark will be deducted for an incorrect answer
- For a two-mark question, 2/3rd mark will be deducted for an incorrect response.
There is no negative marking for MSQs and NATs.

The GATE 2026 is scheduled to take place on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026. The exam will be conducted online in two shifts. The session timings of the GATE 2026 exam are -
- Forenoon shift from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM and
- Afternoon shift from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM
Candidates are advised to check their exam timings (mentioned on the GATE admit card 2026) and report to the exam centre 60 minutes before the exam.

Educational Qualification: You must have passed 10+2 (Intermediate) with Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry as compulsory subjects.
Minimum Marks -General category requires at least 45% aggregate in 12th grade (40% for reserved categories).
Accepted Exams -AP EAMCET (Andhra Pradesh Engineering Agricultural and Medical Common Entrance Test), CBSE 12th, or BIEAP scores are accepted.
Age Limit Should have completed 16 years of age as of 31st December of the admission year.
