Absolutely, yes. The Structural Engineering coursework is a perfect blend of theory classes, field visits, research projects, and industrial workshops. You will get hands-on training and the practical exposure of real-world settings, which is important to excel in the professional world of construction in the future. It is very important to understand the challenges that come alongside, engage with industry professionals, and put the knowledge in the classroom to practical use.

Well, since Structural Engineering is a popular Civil Engg. specialisation and is majorly offered at the PG level, almost all of the top colleges ask for valid entrance exam scores for admission. For UG-level courses, a few colleges may give admission on the basis of Class 12 board exam marks, but for PG courses in Structural Engineering or integrated 5-year courses, you should definitely score excellent marks in the entrance tests.

The entrance exams for Structural Engineering admission are mostly seen as quite challenging and difficult to crack, given the cutthroat competition for seats at top colleges and the number of student applications every year for national/state-level exams like GATE, JEE Main, JEE Advanced, etc. You should have a grasp over Physics and Mathematics subjects, along with engineering fundamentals, to score a good rank in the exam and grab a seat at a top college.

The time required to prepare for Structural Engineering entrance exams cannot be said with any certainty, rather it varies for specific exams that you're preparing for. But, in general, it is always better to start as early as possible, at least 6 months before the final exam is tentatively scheduled to take place. You will have enough time to cover the entire syllabus and even revise the high-priority topics with high weightage to score excellent marks and rank in the entrance test.
