SMIC or Salaire Minimum Interprofessionnel de Croissance is the term for minimum wage for employees in France. As of 01 January 2024, it was €11.65 gross per hour. Employers are supposed to give atleast this much amount to their workers irrespective of their experience or age. If you're an overseas student in France, you can take up part-time employment and can expect to obtain at least the SMIC rate every hour, provided after deductions. Which industry are you working in will also decide your compensation. So, those in retail and hospitality might obtain a bit more than the minimum wage.

France offers multiple part-time employment opportunities for overseas students pursuing higher education there. You can be a language tutor if you're fluent in your native language or any other language and provide tuition to French locals who are willing to learn the same. If you love kids and are responsible you may babysit the children of families who require help with the same. There are also various cafes, hotels, and bars in the country which are in need of part-time staff or workers, especially during the busy tourist season. Apart from these, there are many other options available that one can explore.

Your costs to study in France depends on which French institution you are getting yourself enrolled at. If you are enrolling at a public institution in France, then, your costs of studying will significantly reduce as these costs are subsidised by the French government. Students must note that it is the cost of living in France that they need to take care of as it may be higher than the cost of studying depending on which area, property and lifestyle you settle dow

In the Campus France interview, you will be asked to explain your reasons for choosing France as a study abroad destination and the reason for choosing a particular institution where you have been granted admission. In short, you need to convince the panel about your reasons to go to study in France. So make sure that you present yourself as a confident person who will turn out to be an asset to the country and the institution you're planning to visit.

In order to help students earn a little while studying, France permits them to work in the country while studying. French law allows foreign students to work up to 964 hours per year, irrespective of their level of education and the nationality they hold. Keep in mind that those who do not hold the nationality of the European Union need to possess a student resident permit. These overseas students can also work in their respective academic institutions or host institutions.
