The GATE paper code for Biomedical Engineering is BM. Candidates can also find the paper/test code of the subject on the GATE hall ticket along with the exam date and timings.

The total weightage of the GATE chemistry paper syllabus is as follows -

  • Core GATE chemistry paper - 85%

  • General Aptitude  - 15%

The GATE exam pattern consists of three types of questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Multiple Choice Questions (MSQs), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT). The test papers will be in English. Each GATE 2026 paper is for a total of 100 marks, General Aptitude (GA) is common for all papers (15 marks), and the rest of the paper covers the respective test paper syllabus (85 marks). Moreover, the GATE Score is utilized for public sector undertaking recruitments and MTech admission.

The official GATE 2026 notification is not released yet. For now the GATE 2026 exam pattern follows the 2025 exam scheme. The application form and information brochure will be released soon. 

Two new subjects – Geomatics Engineering (GE) and Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (NM) were introduced in the syllabus. The total number of subjects in GATE 2025 exam was increased to 30. In another newly introduced change, students applying for GATE EXAM 2025 had to opt for two different papers from the prescribed set of combinations.

The marking scheme is different for each GATE question paper section, which is as follows -

  • For 1 mark Multiple Choice Questions, 1/3 mark will be deducted for every wrong answer.

  • For 2 mark Multiple Choice Questions, 2/3 mark will be deducted for every wrong answer.

  • There is no negative marking for Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions.

  • No marks will be awarded for unattempted questions.

GATE is conducted every year by one of the IITs. In 2025, GATE is being conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology  (IIT), Roorkee. It will be conducted in various cities across the country.  The GATE 2025 exam pattern has been released. There are no major changes in the exam pattern from last year. Life Sciences (XL) Test Paper apart from the General Aptitude (GA) section, the XL question paper consists of three parts: Section P (25 marks), and any two sections from Section Q to U (2×30= 60 marks).  These five sections are following;

There are three types of questions asked in the GATE exam namely Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs), Numerical Answer Type Questions (NAT). Every question will be of either 1 or 2 marks. 2 marks question generally more difficult and lengthier. Candidates must attempt mock test and Pervious year GATE question papers to get an idea that which question will be awarded with 2 marks.
