CAT is much difficult over GMAT. CAT happens only once a year. While GMAT. You can take it over and over again within the same year. GMAT is much more organized in terms of syllabus, while CAT also has a syllabus outline, but it is quite broad. The IIMs do not release past question papers since the test has become computer based. GMAC releases the Official Guides that contain actual past GMAT questions. CAT has 3 sections as Quantitative aptitude, Verbal reasoning, Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation, while GMAT has 4 sections: Quantitative Ability, Verbal Ability, Analytical Writing Assessment, and Integrated Reasoning. Hi,
GMAT can be prepared without any coaching and you can prepare for it completely through self-study. You can refer many downloadable and self-help online study guides available on: www.MBA.com. You can take practice tests available on the same week, take practice tests as much as you can for better results.

Hi,
There are certain essential differences between CAT and GMAT.
1. Quants section of CAT is tougher than GMAT. In CAT you can afford to skip questions, but in GMAT. You cannot do that.
2. If you don't do well in CAT then next year you can take CAT again. If you don't do well in GMAT. You can retake GMAT after few months. Speed and accuracy is essence of both.
3. CAT cost: Rs.2000 approximately for per-form.
4. GMAT. Rs.16k approximately for per appearance. I hope this helps.

There are three parts involved in preparing for any competitive exam.
1. Learning the concepts.
2. Solving questions and papers
3. Evaluation and improving. You can use Youtube or refer some books to clarify concepts and learn about the test format and structure. For solving problems you can buy some books by Tata McGraw Hill, Arihant for CAT and Kaplan, GMAT Review for GMAT. For evaluation and improving, you can solve papers and evaluate them yourself. Find out your weaknesses and work on improving them.
