While appearing for UPSC IAS prelims, you should ideally start from reading the syllabus of prelims and mains. Read NCERT for subjects like History, Geography and Economics to lay a good foundation. Reading The Hindu newspaper and Yojana magazine regularly make you stay aware to the current affairs. Refer M.Laxmikanth for Polity, and GC Leong for Geography. Practice writing answers regularly and focus on repetitive revision. Work hard and be consistent in your study/preparation. Suti.

You can take a year gap for preparing competitive exams to get admission into premier institutions in india. Most of the students who didn't get admission into dream colleges or top colleges takes gap and it is common. But don't take too many gaps. For engineering stream, one year gap is enough. For mbbs, it depends.

Yes, you can appear for the UPSC exam after doing a B.Com LL.B 5-year course. UPSC Civil Services Examination allows the candidates who hold a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised university. That's what your integrated B.Com LL.B degree provides for you. It would help much if you had some background of law because that would definitely make you shine if you chose law, public administration, or political Science as your optional subject in the Mains exam. Ensure you fulfill all the eligibility criteria, such as age limits and nationality.
