According to me, Difficulty is in the state of mind. If you are prepared well then the exam is easy & if you are not then, it's difficult. NDA exam is quite easy if you know how to manage time at the time of exams. NDA exam is easy as compared to 12th class board exams/JEE Mains Exam. If you want to score good marks in NDA written paper, then firstly make your maths stronger as much as you can. You can practice maths from 12th class NCERT (12th class NCERT of MATHS is more than enough for NDA maths section).

Yes, he can do fellow programme in management in IIMs. These courses are meant for highly experienced aspirants. In your case by serving nation your friend might have learned various management techniques in day to day operations.
