Go for graduation in any field, which will help you in the civil services examination. Specifically, look for the subjects that are to be common between both the graduation subjects and the examination.

You can choose to pursue graduation in any discipline, as the stream of graduation does not matter for appearing in civil service examination. As an eligibility criteria, one should be a graduate from a recognized university with minimum 50% marks. Rest, selection is based on how you perform in the exam.

Hi Sandip,
Yes, of course. Completion of graduation and your performance in the exam are important. A year's gap will not impact your eligibility.

Hi Harshvardhan,
It doesn't matter, if you were an average student or a topper in your school. Trust me, a huge number of successful people in the world have been average or even below average in their school time. It is all about the passion, dedication, and willing to put the hard work. UPSC exams are highly competitive and requires a lot of hard work and perseverance. If you are really passionate to become an IAS officer, just concentrate on your goal and prepare for it with all your heart.
