Indian students planning to apply to Harvard one day need to be very active in building a holistic profile from early. The Ideal time when the applicants can try controlling everything is class 9th or 10th. Waiting till class 12th may not be the strategy the applicants should follow.

Harvard admissions are really very competitive (only ), and it is very hard to get into this university. The students not only have to be outstanding academically but also have a memorable and holistic profile.
Indian applicants are expected to have built a 'spike' (deep specialisation) over the years, have unique personal narratives, and a huge impact.
For example, 98% in Chemistry is great but a published research in a local newspaper is what Harvard sees in an application.

MIT and Harvard generally rank very similarly each year. As per the US World and News 2026, Massachusetts Institute of Technology is ranked #2 and Harvard at #3.
As per the acceptance rate, MIT is slightly easier for Indian students than Harvard.

Harvard University is one of the top universities in the world. As per the Harvard University QS Rankings there is an increase in the world university ranking of Harvard. In the World University category, Harvard ranks at #5 which is a decline from its previous years' rankings.

While Harvard University is a part of Ivy League, it does not rank number 1 in the whole world. As per QS, THE and the US World, MIT and Oxford generally hold the top spots in major rankings.
Although Harvard consistently ranks among the top 5 universities in the world. As per QS, the Business and Management courses offered at Harvard are ranked #1 in the world.

If you are an Indian student and wondering if Harvard is easier to get into than Princeton University, then please note that both of them are out of the hardest to get into. Also, both are part of the prestigious Ivy League.
Look at the pointers given below -
- While both of them are hard to get into, Harvard University is slightly harder to get into, with acceptance rates going as low as 3.63%.
- And the Princeton University acceptance rate stays at around 4.4% only. You have to be exceptional to get into either of them.

No, Trinity College Dublin is not really better than Harvard as Harvard's ranking is generally better than TCD.
Actually, Trinity is known as the Harvard of Ireland which means that this is also a great institution for higher learning.
