What do you mean by Hotel Manager? There is nothing called "Hotel Manager" in a 5 star property. They call the over-all In-charge as "General Manager(GM)". Hotel Manager is generally for small hotels where Manager looks after the complete operations. Otherwise, in big hotels, you have separate Managers for all 4 core departments who report to the GM.
If you want to get into a Leadership role, you must have Leadership skill and good communication skills. After joining the MT programme, you gradually move up the ladder.

These are the basic departments that operate a hotel. Even that differs from some resorts related departments which has more operating systems for various purposes of the hotel and maintenance service as well. Hotel Management study does not exactly give a deep understanding of how to operate the systems of a hotel
