No, IIT Kharagpur does not offer direct admission to the students. Admission to all the courses is either entrance-based or is subject to rigorous selection rounds inclusive of Personal Interviews conducted by the institute. The institute accepts JEE Advanced scores for admission to BTech.

Admission to IIT Kharagpur is solelt determined by entrance. Numerous national-level entrance tests, includeing GATE, JEE Main, and JEE Advance, are used to selecte students. A applicant must have at least 75% in class 12 and a relevant JEE score in order to be considered for admission to IIT Kharagpur's undergraduate prograsm. Candidates must possess a BE/BTech/BArch degree or a master's in Science or arts with a minimum of 60% aggregate (55% for SC/ST/PwD) in order to be eligible for IIT Kharagpur's joint MTech/ MCP PhD program. IIT Kharagpur curriculum for BSc courses differs for each specialisation. However, some common topics taught in the first year of each specialisations are Mathematics, Programming and Data Structures Tutorial and Laboratory, Electrical Technology, Physics Lab, Chemistry Lab, Engineering Drawing and Computer Graphics, Induction Program and more.

In order to apply for BSc courses at IIT Kharagpur, a candidate must first appear for JEE Advanced. The steps to apply for JEE Advanced is as follows:
- Authenticate using JEE Main details, JEE roll no and D.O.B, and Login
- Fill the registration form
- Upload a scanned copy of required documents such as Class 10 and 12 marksheet, category certificate, JEE Mains scorecard
