No, an IMUCET rank is not required to get admission into CUSAT (Cochin University of Science and Technology). CUSAT has its own entrance examination, called CUSAT CAT (Common Admission Test), for admissions into its various undergraduate and postgraduate programs. IMUCET, on the other hand, is an entrance exam for admission into marine and nautical Science programs at institutions affiliated with the Indian Maritime University. Therefore, to get a seat at CUSAT, you would need to appear for and get a good rank in the CUSAT CAT.

For B.Tech in Marine Engineering through lateral entry, there isn't a common, mandatory entrance exam like IMU CET for direct entry. Instead, admissions are often based on merit, typically determined by the aggregate marks in the qualifying Diploma or degree, and may include additional assessments like interviews or group discussions.

Hello Shyam Krishna, Indian Maritime University offers courses in Marine engineering etc. After passing of this course the student then can join merchant shipping. The basic eligibility criteria for appearing or applying for the common entrance test conducted by this IMU is passing of wealth with an aggregate of 60% marks in PCM and 50% marks in English. As you have obtain 50% marks in PCM at first class it appears that you are not eligible to appear for the IMU CET.
Best wishes to you.

Yes, as a B.Sc graduate you can apply for IMU CET for postgraduate courses. For MBA or M.Sc in Commercial Shipping & Logistics, your Bachelor's degree with minimum 50% aggregate and 50% in English qualifies. However, for M.Tech programs, you need an engineering (BE/B.Tech) degree with at least 60% aggregate.

To join Merchant Navy, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) are required in 12th and most colleges require a minimum of 60% marks. If you have scored less in 12th, some options are still open:
Take Improvement Exam (next year) and improve your marks to get eligibility.
Some private maritime institutes also take those with 40–50% marks—but their placement is not that strong.
Alternative: You can do GP Rating Course (General Purpose Rating), for which eligibility is a little less (10th/12th pass with 40%+).
Once you get entry in Merchant Navy, you can grow later with experience.

According to the official website of the college and other official sources, IMUCET scores are mandatory to get admission into Bachelors in Science courses at HIMT Chennai. Moreover, the college does not accept any other entrance examination score apart from IMU CET.
