NIT Surathkal is very difficult. However you can tryout the following Engineering colleges of your state.
1. HKBK College of Engineering, Bangalore
2. MVJ College of Engineering, Bangalore
3. CMR Institute of Technology, Bangalore

5. Ballari Institute of Technology and Management, Bellary

IIT or NIT cut off depends upon many factors like total number of candidates appeared, kind of exam and certain normalization. The cut off for general category is approximately 90 percentile means in order to get seat in top institutes your rank should be good.
