Hello Eswara, For appearing in GATE, M.Sc is an accepted norm or even 2nd year of M.Sc. However, getting into M.Tech for any branch, you need to have degree of B.Tech. There are very few institutes which will accept M.Sc. In chemistry as a criteria for admission for M.Tech. In this connection you should first decide in which institution you want to take admission and then check the eligibility requirement of this institution before taking the plunge into GATE and then finding out that you are not eligible. Pursue any of this according to your interest. For getting government jobs, you need to clear exams like UPSC which has an optional paper. If you plan to choose PCM, as one of your optional paper go ahead with that subject. Anyway, choosing the subject in which you are most comfortable will elevate your preparation for other exams as you will have to give less time to the subject. Usually, Mathematics is chosen by many people if they are interested in clearing some government exams.

The eligibility criteria for M.Sc(Chemistry) from VIT is B.Sc degree in either chemistry or applied chemistry or applied science from any recognized university with physics or mathematics or biology as ancillary subject. There is no entrance exam for M.Sc programs and candidates will be called for a counseling in the order of merit of their aggregate marks secured in their undergraduate degree programmes calculated upto the fourth semester or second year, whichever is applicable (This is inclusive of Languages / EOP and all the subjects they have studied up-to pre-final year).
