Have sound knowledge in basics of Microbiology and rest are conceptual sound knowledge of your own Graduation syllabus. Still, see past year papers for better narrowing in approach. These days applied Microbiology basics are given prime importance too along with basic current affairs of same.

You need a strong reference along with application with equally well interviews in some cases and must have a good explanation for your pause. The better you show social responsibility works link in NGOs and such, higher the chances you have in comparison to others, if your social welfare jobs were really impressive in terms of impact.

All entrance has a prerequisite that you have basic knowledge of the subjects from your graduation level. After that your proficiency is your rank. Subject is relative then.
