Mass communication is the study of how people and entities relay information through mass media to large segments of the population at the same time. It is usually understood to relate newspaper, magazine, and book publishing, as well as radio, television and film, even via internet as these mediums are used for disseminating information, news and advertising.
Mass communication differs from the studies of other forms of communication, such as interpersonal communication or organizational communication, in that it focuses on a single source transmitting information to a large number of receivers. The study of mass communication is concerned with how the content of mass communication persuades or otherwise affects the behavior, attitude, opinion, or emotion of the person or people receiving the information.
Although the eligibility criteria will vary from college to college, but mostly depend on the below mentioned factors:
1. Undergraduate courses: Mostly undergraduate courses only required the successful completion of Class 12th from any board.
2. Post graduate courses: A postgraduate course would require the candidate to be below 30 years of age and the completion of a Bachelor degree in any discipline. Some would also prefer work experience in some media related work.

50% is very low to be quite honest but you can try applying. The best universities we are talking about here are extremely competitive, applicants must be academically strong, in addition applicants must have a strong profile. Ample co-curricular activities, significant achievements, outstanding communication skills etc would be required. Take the GRE and TOEFL or IELTS and score high. Letters of reference and an impressive personal statement is important. Visit a few university websites, check the admission requirements pages and understand what they are looking for-

Journalism and mass communication has a good scope ahead. With the growing importance of the media today, the opportunities in this field are numerous and the job is also very demanding and exhilarating. You can find jobs as sub-editors, reporters or correspondents in the print and electronic media or as assistant information officers and public relations officers in the government information services, public relations departments and so on.
Journalists can be writers, editors or photographers, broadcast presenters or producers. However, your success and salary in this field will depend on your caliber. Some basic knowledge about journalism also is good enough, since degrees have limited relevance in the media sector.
