Permanent Residency (called Indefinite Leave to Remain or ILR) in the UK generally requires 5 years of continuous lawful residence. Here is a typical pathway-
Year 1–2- Study (Student Visa).
Year 3–4- Work on Graduate Route Visa (2 years).
Year 5- Switch to Skilled Worker Visa and complete 5 years total to apply for ILR.
Then citizenship- After 1 year of ILR, you can apply for British citizenship.
This 5-year pathway is achievable but requires securing a qualifying job offer within 2 years of graduation on the Graduate Route.

You must prove that you have lived and worked in the regional area for 3 years on a "Skilled Work Regional Visa (Provisional) - Subclass - 491". Working and living on this visa for 3 years leads you to getting a "Skilled Regional Visa - Subclass 191" which is the Permanent Residence Permit in Australia. Yes, the option to get a Permanent residency in Australia is very possible after an MS from USyd.
The eligibility is to have a 2-year CRICOS-registered course and then receive a Temporary Graduate Visa (which is Subclass 485).
