Yes, a bachelors degree in journalism is equivalent to any bachelors degree.
After completing Bachelor of Journalism and mass communication course, you can go for Master of Journalism and Mass Communication course. Some PG diploma courses in Journalism and Mass Communication are also equivalent to it. Some of the course that can help you make a career in journalism are
Master of Science in Mass Communication
Master of Media Studies
Master of Arts in Mass Communication
Master of Communication Studies
Master of Arts in Journalism
Master of Communication & Journalism

You can definitely pursue a degree or a pg diploma in mass communication after b.com.
as the minimum requirement of a bachelors degree in any disciple is a must, although a bachelor in Journalism/media studies is preferred and considered an added advantage. Leading colleges across the country give preference to students with experience. (Internships count too).

You start your journey either from BA English hons and than do Journalism from well known university or you can start from BJmc programme. According to me you should go for English hons and improve your creative writing to bcz in the desire field person not only good communication skills but also with creative writing skills having advantage too. And in college time you should participate in debates and anchoring opportunities that will give you experience and confidence too
