Placement, infrastructure, faculty, education/teaching pattern, environment everything is considered to be best. In SRM the placement status is unbelievable, almost 99% of its students get placed in big and recognised firms. The highest package was 24 Lacs per annum, minimum it was 6-7 Lacs. The entrance exam for the course you have choose will be conducted on May 27, 2018. Result of the exam will be announced in the second or third week of June. The exam will be of descriptive format of 2 hours. Generally, in the entrance of journalism and mass communication the capability of the students are checked. Comprehension skills, language skills, vocabulary, general knowledge, current affairs, history of communication and journalism, politics are some of the major aspects upon which the questions are asked.

According to me, you should pursue both the courses separately. You can start with Bachelor's degree in the journalism BA/ B.Sc. Then go for Masters in the same. But it will take a long time. If you are comfortable with this than go ahead. Moreover, instead of going for full-time Bachelors course, you can do it by distance mode or you may also pursue certificate course/Diploma in journalism. This generally takes from a month to one year.
