No, a few require 6.5 but you should be able to get through as most of the colleges ask for 6 band.

If you belong to general category, you will not get a good branch in any IIT. Perhaps, you can get in good NITs in electrical, mechanical and civil engineering branches. Marine engineering is another engineering branch similar to mechanical, civil, etc. It has a very good scope but you must ensure you get enrolled in a reputed institute which has standard certifications related to marine field.

If you are passionate about design and are willing to go the extra mile and work extremely hard to carve a career in design then do try out the Master's course at NID.
I am currently pursuing my Masters in “New Media Design" @ NID and I have a lot of mechanical engineers as my batch mates.
Yes, there is an age limit of 30 years to apply for a Master's course at NID.

Your query is very ambiguous. You should be knowing what is the best course for you, figure out your interests and career goals. Also, it is difficult to debate about the demanded course, be aware that economy keeps changing and every country has different sector and industries which are its driving factors.
