For the first round of the exam, which involves basics like mathematics, English and reasoning. You should be able to do well, if you are good enough in school. This round also consists of questions, which tests your drawing skills, and your creativity, so a little bit of practice is required for improving your skills and also take a look at the type of questions which are asked in the exam.
The second round, is the situation test round, which is the deciding factor of your rank. In this round, you are given various options to choose from, like, designing and making a 3D model of a bus stand/a poll booth/a room interior/ a parking lot, using only the materials provided to you by the college, and glue and scissors, in 3 hours.

Here are some points which can help you to score good marks.
1.Try to sketch almost anything and everything you come across.
2. Keep your eraser away from you while practicing. It will help your lines become more bold and confident.
3. Stick to the prescribed syllabus of the NIFT entrance exam.

4. Please use quality color pencils. Best and economic option would be faber castle colour pencils with at least 24 shades in it.
5. Planning is very important. First plan your ideas and then start on with sketching.
7. Start off with simple ones like logo design or T-shirt design. Go for the complicated ones like scene drawing later.

Here are some of the key points to crack NIFT entrance exam :
1) Practice is the key to success. Try to sketch almost anything and everything you come across.
2) Browse through various newspapers, magazines and online sites.
3) Take ideas from various advertisements, posters, banners etc., you come across.
4) Keep your eraser away from you while practising.
5) It'll help your lines become more bold and confident.
6) Give importance to detailing where ever required, like the face of a human figure or the humans outfits etc.
7) Try to master the skills of human illustration. Concentrate more in proportions, form etc.
8) Calligraphy skills come handy in posters, banner design, etc. Learn and practice different styles of lettering as they can come handy.
9) Stick to the prescribed syllabus of the NIFT entrance exam.
10) While sketching first make a light sketch and later darken the drawing once you are confident about it. This helps you save time erasing mistakes.

The syllabus of NIFT is vast. Preparing for NIFT can be a bit confusing to know what will come and what will not.
Its better to by any reference book for NIFT preparation as it provides a better grip of what all will be coming.
It assesses ones logical thinking analytical thinking general awareness and your aptitude for this course.
Prepare general knowledge from books and newspapers.
1. Read a lot. Not just newspapers but blogs, trends, magazines etc. The biggest misconception about NIFT is that it is only about Fashion. Well, it is not the case. There is a lot of hard work, research and thought that goes into coming up with any product, be it jewellery, apparel or a photograph. So read about everything.
2. Draw what you see. Literally draw a lot. Take newspapers or used sheets and draw straight lines and circle. This will improve the stroke quality and you will know how to move the pencil. Do this and draw everything you see in front of you. CAT, dog, glass anything.
Make these 2 things a habit. You will surely succeed.
