NIT is the great choice, thus for Mechanical from NIT-Bhopal will be great Choice if you are a gadget loving guy and love to play with tools whereas if you want to work with software company in the country you should go for CSE in NIT as CSE enables you to join in the field of technology in Computer and can land up in the jobs like TCS, Cognizant.

NIT Agartala is the Second Best after Silchar in NE states. Thus as per my view I would suggest you to go for SILCHAR -NIT is the best in terms of Placement
Infrastructure, Environment. Etc. Thus this purely on my views and as per this factor.

As per your question, my answer is YES. But there are some conditions that you need to be fulfilled. Yes, it is possible to upgrade but for that you need to be studious and your mark should be best among the best. Thus, to upgrade the branch, have a contact with the office admin for more details and contact your HOD may guide you better.

You can use the college predictor by Shiksha.com
https://www.shiksha.com/jee-mains-college-predictor
Thus, as per your question, the answer is that you'll get admission in NIT. That's confirmed but which branch you may get that is not known. Thus, for that, your score matter and everything depends on the counselling during admission procedure.

As per your question, you should go for NIT-Silchar. It has good placements and infrastructure as per other NIT in NE. NIT has a good environment and infrastructure and with fair placement records, among the other NIT in Northeast and after NIT Silchar comes the second that is NIT Agartala.

I would Suggest to go for NIT Silchar for mechanical or even Agartala is also better option among all as per my view as NIT - Agartala and NIT- Silchar have a good placement as per last 3year track record. And thus, the question for your answer is Silchar NIT is best for Mechanical as per view.
