In case you don't get your desired college, don't settle for some mediocre college. I would suggest NIT-Suratkal. You must have used your first year to find out a broad field of interest and your second to find topics which you are passionate about. For this, use the internet or talk to your seniors and batch mates. Once you are at this stage, find out which of your seniors/batchmates are working on the same topic and ask for help to start off.

NIT-Kurukshetra is the best option if you are looking for mechanical engineering. In past two years, students from this NIT are really getting good average salary package. By the way, other two NITs are also good. You can go as per your preference and residence.

If you don't have any specific choice for doing B.Tech then you can get most of the NITs, IIITs and almost all the GFTIs without any problem, but if you wish to do it only in a specific branch then it might be difficult for you to do that.

Yes, you can easily get any of the NITs for B.Arch but getting good NITs would be somewhat difficult for you, otherwise, you would definitely get the one till the last round of counselling.
