If you belong to SC-ST, then you'll surely get a NIT. If you belong to OBC, then also you have a good chance of getting into a NIT. But if you're a General, you wont get. And no one gets into IIT just by giving JEE Mains. To get into a IIT, you have to score well in JEE Advance.

Hey Vinay,
You are having good marks in your boards but below average marks in JEE Mains, you may not get any NIT or any best government college but based on your category you may get benefited. You should wait for the counseling and also do apply for some best private institutes also so that it helps you at a later stage. You may also get some best scholarships based on your marks in 12.

Yes you have s chance to get NITs from South too. Just put your preferences from South Indian NITs in the counselling. Hopefully you will get a college of your choice.
