Yes, IIIT Sonepat offers PhD in two courses; PhD in Computer Science and Engineering and PhD in Information Technology. Interested students must fulfil the specified basic eligibility i.e. passing graduation with a minimum aggregate if 60% from a recognised university. A few universities such as the IITs, IISc Bangalore, JNU, BHU, etc. provide direct admissions for PhD courses in certain departments only for students with a high academic background, usually 8 CGPA or above. Such programs may in fact have their own pre-qualifications, particularly interviews and a detailed research proposal.

PhD courses take a maximum of five to six years. However, the duration may vary as per the institute where the students have applied. Aspirants are eligible to pursue a PhD course only if they have completed their master’s degree in a similar course/ field/ stream in which they want to pursue a PhD. Some colleges also specify that candidates need to have completed an MPhil to pursue a PhD course offered by them.

After admissions, the students will have to work on their research proposal along with their allotted supervisor/guide. Students will have to participate in seminars and research papers while preparing their thesis. The final thesis will have to be submitted as a hard copy as well as a soft copy. A viva-voce will be conducted where the students will have to defend their thesis.
