To become a successful psychologist in India, you will have to follow an entire degree course; that is Bachelor's program in psychology, followed by Master's degree, and then PhD in this subject.
You can go for M.A Psychology. The basic eligibility criterion for pursuing M.A Psychology is having a graduation degree in any stream.
However, many of the reputed universities demand graduation degree with Honors in Psychology or Psychology as one of the subjects studied in graduation from any of the recognized college/university.
Some even ask for a minimum of 45-50% marks in graduation as qualifying criteria to secure admission in this course and some also conduct an entrance examination.
Other Options that can help you in knowing- how to become psychologist in India:
-You can enroll into one year diploma course in psychology under guidance and counseling.
-Opt for certification courses (6 months- 1 year) after you have completed your graduation, conducted by qualified psychologists and afterwards, you can become a member of Association of Professional Psychologists.
Therefore, minimum qualification required in becoming a psychologist or counselor is to get degree in any stream with an added diploma course in psychology or get membership in Association of Professional Psychologists.

Psychology can be broadly defined as the study of the mind (normal or abnormal. Psychologists carry out research and conduct programs in an attempt to understand human behaviour to help solve human problems.
Psychologists apply their knowledge and techniques to a wide range of human services, management, education, law and sports.
In order to be successful in this filed you need to have below mentioned skills:
- Basic curiosity about human behaviour.
- Ethical standards of dealing with problems.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to deal with all kinds of people.
- Logical thinking, etc.
Psychologists work with schools, colleges and professional institutes, industries and market research groups, hospitals, government, social welfare departments, selection boards, banks, placement agencies, consultation firms, medical clinic and research and as teachers or professors in colleges.

Yes, you can study Psychology after completing 12th without MBBS.
You can become a Psychologist, for that you need to obtain a degree (B.A) in Psychology or allied subjects.
You may then go for Post graduation (M.A) in the desired branch of Psychology (Clinical Psychology, Organizational Psychology, Criminal Psychology, Child Psychology, Sports Psychology etc).
You may alongside attend workshops and short term therapeutic / organizational courses to enhance your counselling skills and widen up your opportunities.
Then, opt for research programs and apply for jobs in public or private sector and acquire experience alongside in the related field.

MBBS is required if you wish to become a psychiatrist. After MBBS, you may either do a postgraduate course (M.D.- Doctor of Medicine) in Psychiatry or a Diploma in Psychiatric Medicine (DPM).
Besides MD and DPM, The National Board of Examinations conducts a programme called Diploma of National Board Exam (DNB). The DNB is considered to be equivalent to a MD degree.
