Retail is a specialized form of marketing only. It is not the question of high / low reputation but of awareness and availability. General PGDM is available in all institutions - specialized courses like retail / insurance are offered at select institutions only. As a sector , retail is the biggest industry in Indian economy contributing to 13% of GDP - compared to IT which is around 6%. But everyone one knows about it.
