Assembly level Languages are low level programming language for microprocessors and other programmable devices. This isn't a single language, rather is a group of languages targeted towards a specific CPU architecture. It contains symbolic representation of the machine codes for the target CPU infrastructure. Unlike High - level programming languages like C+, Java, .NET, etc., these programs can be ported to only those systems which have the same CPU architecture.
Understanding of basic programming languages like GWBASIC, C, etc. would serve as an added benefit to understand Assembly level programming as these entire use top - down approach.
Though Assembly Languages are used these days only in companies which design microprocessors and other programmable devices, it does find an extensive opportunity in security devices, which involve output of hard-wired encrypted messages from those devices. Also, it does find massive employment in the field of Artificial Intelligence to design smart devices.

A shell is an interface between the user and the services of operating systems. In UNIX or other Linux based operating system, shells like bash and korn support programming construct which are saved as scripts. These scripts become shell commands and hence many Linux commands are script. Typical use of a shell script would be to automate what is required and present it in a desirable manner.
Generally scripts can be used to achieve several tasks. Listed only a few:
1. Create your own command/tool
2. Monitor several tasks like disk usage, etc.
3. Taking data backups and snapshots
UNIX and mostly the LINUX based Operating systems are used mainly for development purposes. Right from networking systems, to applications are developed in LINUX based operating systems, and is preferred by programmers. Shell Scripting helps to achieve certain functions that are not included by default. These are mostly used to configure the server or the administrator system in a network.
To option for this, a person needs to have basic knowledge of the functioning of an operating. This involves, knowledge of the layers of the operating system, the interactions between them, and the boundaries involved.
