Yes, staff selection commission conducts the SSC CGL exam every year, to recruit the various post under various ministries, departments, and organizations. You can take some cues from my preparation strategy for SSC CGL. I was able to secure 165 in English Tier-2 in SSC CGL 2016 exam. I was in a habit of reading The Hindu newspaper. I think, it is one of the biggest contributor to my success. I used to read it for 1- 1.5 hours right from Front page, Editorial, Business, and Sports, National, International and some other news. So, indirectly, over a period of times, my English interpretation skills improved a lot. Reading improves Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary, Sentence formation and I found occasional Idioms and phrases. Additionally it helped me in General Awareness. This is how Newspaper works: If you read it daily, you come across many words. These words repeats in many news. So, naturally your vocabulary gets a strong boost. You come across many phrases and Idioms and if you read them with a context, you will never forget them. Editorials help you in Grammar, sentence formation etc. So, Newspaper is a complete package if it is taken seriously for 34 months before the exam. Give at least 60 - 90 minutes daily without fail. I love reading books. Though I am a novel freak since college days but the habit took a backseat in 2014 due to job and other commitments. Then during preparation, I started with a book, The Startup Nation (Excellent book on entrepreneurial spirit of Israel) followed by other books. I used to read books in night 12 hours. Non-Fiction stuff is best. I bought a book, General English by S. P Bakshi and followed it chapter by chapter. My way around was as follows : I read a chapter, note down some important points, grammar rules in a notebook and practice some questions at the end of the chapter. Did it for every chapter so at the end of it, I had almost all the grammar and other English rules. Used to revise them daily for half an hour. So, I remembered most of them during real exam and helped me a lot in Choose the best alternativetype of questions. Start with Tenses. Tenses are the foundation of English. Revise tenses daily, takes only 67 minutes for all the rules and see your confidence boost. Made a notebook for vocabulary. From A-Z, I completed in some 15 days. Revised almost daily and got a good grasp. Words from newspapers and previous year papers formed an important part. With words, write their most important synonym and antonym.

B.Tech students can give SSC CGL Exam.
Students who have completed B.Tech course or are in the final year of engineering can appear for the SSC CGL exam. The official web portal of SSC clearly mentions the eligibility factors for CGL aspirants. Candidates who are aiming to appear for the CGL exam should take care of the following requirements or criteria.
1) SSC CGL minimum Qualification:
The basic requirement for SSC CGL exam is a Bachelor's Degree or Graduation Certificate from a recognized university. There are however certain other criteria for some particular posts such as Assistant Audit Officer/Assistant Accounts Officer or Junior Statistical Officer.
2) Age Criteria for SSC CGL:
There are different age limits for different posts and the related information can be accessed from SSCs web portal. For 2017 exam, age limit was calculated from 1st August, 2017. If the candidate doesn't fulfill the age criteria for the particular post, he or she will not be permitted to give the exam. The minimum age limit for maximum posts is 18 years. It should be noted that SSC provides age relaxations for some categories, like SC/ST candidates have 5 years of age relaxation and OBC candidates have 3 years and so on. For example: Central government Employees who have served for not less than 3 years can get 5 years of age relaxation. There are also some physical standards for some particular posts which may include candidate's height, chest and medical reports, etc.
