International students choosing UK to study abroad can expect to spend anywhere between GBP 1,200 and GBP 2,200 per month, depending on their location, type of accommodation, dietary habits, lifestyle, course requirements, University fees (such as library fees, gym fees, etc.), leisure activities, travel, etc. Students can apply for scholarships and/ or work part-time in order to reduce their cost of living in the UK. Students must note that they are allowed to work for a maximum of 20 hours per week when their classes are in session.

Students who wish to stay back in the UK after completion of their course need to apply for a UK post-study work visa (PSW UK) or a UK Graduate Visa. With the UK Graduate Visa, students can stay back in the UK for 2 years (3 years in case they have completed a Doctoral qualification, commonly known as the PhD degree) and work. Most universities in the UK accept applications via the UCAS portal for undergraduate studies, while applications are usually submitted directly to a university via its official admissions portal for postgraduate studies.

UK study visa application fee is GBP 558 for all international students in or outside UK. Students also have to pay Immigration Health Surcharge depending on length of their stay in country.

The per year cost is GBP 776 for students, applicants under 18 at the time of application & those on a Youth Mobility Scheme visa. All other applicants pay GBP 1,090–1,100 per year.

Student cannot live in UK directly after studies. But it is possible in future. Students must satisfy UK visa requirements as mentioned below-   

  • Must have lived and worked in UK for 5 or more years
  • Must not have spent 180+ days outside UK in any of 5 years
  • Must meet salary requirements in UK- GBP 38,700 per year
  • Must be in demand for job in UK and satisfy min salary requirements even after getting PR

The cost of studies in the United Kingdom vary with the universities & the type of course a student opts to pursue. The  cost of studies in the country ranges between GBP 10,000-GBP 38,000 (INR 11.5 L-INR 43.75 L) for one year.

The average cost of studies is around GBP 22,200 (INR 25.5 L)

Moreover, students can also expect to spend on average GBP 1,334 (INR 1.54 L) on a monthly basis in the form of living expenses.
