In order to secure an enrollment, overseas applicants must fulfill the University of California Santa Cruz admission requirements listed below:

1) Undergraduate Requirements:

  • High school or secondary school certificate;
  • Proof of English language proficiency; and
  • Other course-specific requirements.

Note: Since the university is test-optional,  SAT/ACT scores are not considered a part of the admission process.

Candidates must not show any laxity and excel academically, along with meeting all the UC Santa Cruz admission requirements for international students in order to secure an enrollment. Additionally, fulfilling the required grade point average is one of the major entry requirement at UC Santa Cruz and international students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 - 3.5 or higher in order to boost their chances of getting admitted in the university. Other best practices include submission of high English language proficiency scores and staying active in the world outside classrooms.

The newly admitted out of state and international first year and are automatically considered for the undergraduate Dean's Award. First year students receive awards ranging from $12,000-$60,000 (INR 11.53 L - INR 57.6 L) paid evenly over the four years. In case a student becomes a California resident the scholarship will be automatically discontinued.

International students are generally eligible for student loans and are eligible for very few scholarships. International students are not eligible for need based federal aid since it is reserved for US citizens and permanent residents. International undergraduate students with valid visas are eligible for the Regents Scholarship, the highest honor awarded by the university based on the students' academic achievement. UC Santa Cruz ranks as one of the best universities around the globe according to the top ranking bodies like THE and QS, which is  #332 in 2024 and #375 in 2023.

If compared with the previous year's ranking by QS World University Ranking, it is observe that the rankings have been improving in the 2024 at 332 when compared to 2023 at 375.
