Hi Manjushree, Open Universities are UGC Approved. You have not mentioned which university. And all Degrees from Open University is Valid to be eligible for UPSC or any other government Job Exams.

yes after graduation in any stream you can give the exam. The minimum eligibility is that a candidate must have 12th and graduation in any stream and after that, a candidate is eligible for the above. Thank you.

Why are you thinking for after the posting. First achieve it then dream of it or think about problem you will get after it. Cracking UPSC is very difficult and that's the most challenging part. So first focus on how you will crack UPSC then think on later part. After getting any post, you will only select some places where you want posting. In that list only you will get post most probably.

Total marks of Mains exam is 1750. Mains exam is a subjective exam that takes place after prelims exam. You need to qualify prelims exam for giving Mains exam. Mains exam consists of total of 9 papers. 4 papers are of general studies, 2 papers are of optional subjects, 1 paper essay, 1 paper English language and 1 paper is of any Indian language. Duration of all papers is 3 hours. Language paper will be of 300 marks each and rest every paper will be of 250 marks. In language paper, you need to score qualifying marks only that is 33%.

I am preparing for UPSC, so I can help you with this question much better. There are 3 stages you have to cross to become an IAS officer. First is prelims then Mains and lastly interview. In prelims, there are MCQ questions regarding current affairs, science and technology, general studies, etc. There are two papers in prelims both are of 200 marks. The first paper is just for qualification and the second paper is for ranking. You need to score minimum 120-130 marks out of 200 in prelims.
