Hi,
Automobile engineering is a very vast and fast growing sector. New development and innovation are the important part of this course. However, this is fact that placement in Automobile engineering are very less in comparison to CS and IT. However, it depends upon own caliber, passion and interest. Southern region have good presence in automotive industries and all the major companies like Ashok Leyland, Hero MotoCorp, Isuzu motor, Mahindra& Mahindra, TVS and TATA etc. are there. Hence, try to be come in top three of your college so that better chances of placement can be made.

Quick guide that will provide all the information you need to know about B.Tech Lateral Entry.
So make sure you read it and take necessary actions as per your choice of colleges.
For Lateral Entry seats in government college's entrance exams is the only way to secure a seat.
However for Lateral entry admission in private colleges apart from entrance exams direct admission through management quota is also possible.
Though diploma engineering courses may help in an early exposure to the job market yet, you may miss out a few opportunities due to lack of a degree.
In this case, you can opt for lateral entry in B.Tech.

If you have chance, my personal opinion is prepare again if your economic condition supports, because if you don't take risk, you will not get something big. Now, if you take admission in VIT, you have to pay fee for 4 year now. If you prepare from a coaching, you will pay for 1 year and after that if your family income is less than INR. 1 lac, you don't have to pay fees in NITs or IITs. So, better to give yourself a chance.
