The cost of attending Whittier College is generally higher than that of the University of La Verne. Whittier College tuition fees for the year 2023-2024 stand at approximately $48,924, whereas tuition fees at the University of La Verne go for about $45,850. Moreover, the overall cost of attending University of La Verne is often less at around $25,103 than that of Whittier College which stands at about $28,368. This makes Whittier College, also a private institution, very expensive in comparison to University of La Verne.

Students must be enrolled as full-time undergraduates and have employment eligibility to work in the United States. Living on campus at Whittier College is better. Students are required to live on campus unless they meet the exemption requirements for off-campus housing. If students want to live off campus they also have to fill out financial hardship form. The college has five residence halls some of which are homes to these communities. In a theme community, students live together in a certain section of the residence hall and take part in activities that align with their shared interests on the social, intellectual, and personal fronts. Whittier is located in the uptown area of the city of Whittier, so students like walking around as there are cute cafes. Students mention that there are lots of on-campus activities to keep students engaged. Faculty genuinely care about their students and help connect students with fellowships and internships that will help them obtain professional roles upon graduation. 

A student stated that most students live off campus because of the dorm conditions. Concerns regarding the college's financial viability and how it affects resources and programming are raised in certain reports.

Getting into Whittier College is moderately selective as the acceptance rate ranges between 75% and 86%. Standardized test scores are not compulsory to submit but half the applicants admitted to Whittier College who submitted test scores have an SAT score between 1100 and 1330. The average high school GPA required is 3.61 or better. Letters of recommendation are considered important for admissions officials at Whittier College. Whittier College has again been named one of the top national liberal arts colleges by the Princeton Review, Washington Monthly, Forbes, Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education, and College of Distinction, among others in the roundup of annual college rankings.
