DPSRU offers a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT) that provides students with the skills and knowledge required to work as medical lab technicians in hospitals, commercial laboratories, private clinics, nursing homes, and other health centers. The program is designed to recruit, educate, and prepare highly competent paramedical scientists to serve patients and the healthcare profession while demonstrating high ethical and moral standards and technical competence.
The course provides knowledge of diagnostic instruments and procedures and imparts required proficiency in handling those instruments to enable students to work in various laboratory settings. The program includes 12 weeks of training in reputed external hospitals/institutes, and students are awarded a DMLT degree upon completion of the program.
The program's objectives include:
Providing students with a basic knowledge and practical training and skills to perform routine clinical laboratory procedures within acceptable quality control parameters in hematology, biochemistry, pathology, and microbiology.
Imparting required proficiency in handling diagnostic instruments to enable students to work in various laboratory settings.
Developing responsible citizenship in imparting responsibility and leadership qualities among students along with advanced professional skills.
Understanding normal ranges/values for all common hematology/biochemical parameters and their clinical significance.
Applying suitable remedial measures to prevailing health problems.
Collecting blood specimens through venipuncture and capillary puncture.
Describing the morphological variations of various blood cells and discussing their clinical importance.
Learning about various gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, viruses, and fungi that cause diseases to humans.
The program consists of four semesters, including theory and practical courses, and an internship/project in the final semester. The evaluation scheme includes internal and external examinations, and students are required to undergo a 12-week internship in a hospital or laboratory setting.
