Well, for getting admission into the college NIT Rourkela, you need to qualify class 12 board exam and the JEE Mains exam. Based on your score and rank you can apply for any branch of your interest in NIT Rourkela. The criteria For candidates to qualify for admissions to NITs/IIITs/GFTIs, they should have secured at least 75% marks in class 12th exam or be in the top 20 percentile in class 12th exam conducted by the respective boards,for General students. For SC/ST candidates, the eligibility criteria is 65% marks in class 12th.The rank in JEE Mains should be Home State: Rank - 25570 and Other State: Rank - 16412 . NIT Rourkela is ranked 15th by NIRF in 2018. The placement is also good over here. Many companies visit here like ABB , Amazon ,amdocs, Aricent, CapGemini, Cummins, Del,l Ericsson India, Essar Cellular, Future Group, Futures, First Goldman Sachs, Hindustan Unilever, HP ,IBM, Infosys, L T Lafarge, Microsoft, Musigma Patni, Pepsi, Reliance, SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC, Wipro etc visit the campus and recruits many students.

It is a new branch at NIT Rourkela, as it has a deep scope for development and research, so it would grow more and more in the mean time. Moreover, it is something that you would enjoy studying, if you really have any interest in production and processing of Food and maintaining its quality.
More likely, this branch is all about food making, no it is way broader. We develop food, we develop machines to develop food, we develop machines to keep the food safe. So it has certain degree of mechanical engineering, certain degree of chemical engineering and a major part of Food Science and Engineering.
As there is growth and development in India with respect to Food and Beverage Processing, there has open up a gate for great research and job opportunities, as well, in the near future or I would say it has already started.
Looking at some stats about the placement records for the academic year '17-'18,it is doing well. some companies like Milk Mantra, IDMC, Tetra Pak, etc. Some of the non-core companies visiting the campus for placement are ZS Associates, TCS, EXL Services, Tredence, Affine Analytics, etc.
The highest package is 10 LPA and the average package is around 6-7 LPA.

But it is difficult for getting admission into NITs and IITs. as per new rule , the new eligibility criteria for getting admission in NIT is having minimum 75% in board 12th exam and the merit of this year is expected above 150 marks in JEE; for General students.For SC/ST candidates, the eligibility criteria is 65% marks in class 12th. So its quite difficult to get admission in NIT. But there are many other colleges with similar rankings where you can get admission very easily. So there is lot of opportunity where you can excel in your life. Just study hard and fulfill your dreams. You can get admission in colleges like Birla institute of technology and science, Anna university, Alliance College of Engineering and Design, Alliance University, Anekal, Bangalore, Vellore institute of technology, college of engineering, pune etc

NIT Rourkela has good opportunity for both mechanical engineering as well as computer Science engineering. But, it depends on your interest that which branch you choose. Both the branch has equal importance and holds equally best placement records. Core companies like Tata steel, Vedanta, Tata motors, Maruti - Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra and many more visit our campus every year and recruit meritorious students as Graduate engineer Trainees. Sometimes PSUs also come NIT Rourkela because it is one of the top NITs. Fortunately last year Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) visited our campus. Average package of Core Company is more than 8 LPA. The companies like Microsoft, Dell, HP, oracle apps, Samsung, Ericsson, NCR Corporation, SAP labs etc. Visit the campus and recruit students.
