SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre is a renowned institution for pursuing MBBS, and several other medical courses that it offers. The college is affiliated to the SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRM IST) and is approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC). The college was ranked #20 by NIRF in 2023. In addition to its well-defined MBBS curriculum for the classroom, it has a multi-speciality hospital with 1500+ beds, where the students can get hands-on-experience by attending the patients. It also has an NABL accredited laboratory and a simulation centre in association with Harvard University. All this makes SRM Medical College different than other MBBS colleges.

Yes, the students of MBBS at SRM Medical College are required to pursue a one-year internship, in addition to the course period of 4.5 years, as prescribed by the NMC. Hence, the total course period becomes 5.5 years for MBBS students. In this one-year compulsory internship, students gain practical experience in patient care, diagnostics, treatment and management under the supervision of experienced doctors and healthcare professionals. A stipend of INR 13,500 per month is also paid to the MBBS interns at SRM Medical College.

No other entrance exam is acceptable for college admission to the MBBS programme. The only way to fill the slots is through MCC's AIQ counselling. For this counselling, only students who meet the NEET requirements may sign up.

The option to choose an elective in the MBBS programme of SRM Medical College is available to the students in the fourth year. The period of first 4.5 years of MBBS at SRM Medical College is divided into three phases, after foundation course of one month. The first phase covers Pre-clinical subjects such as Human Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry etc. The second phase covers Para-clinical subjects such as Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology etc. The third phase covers clinical subjects General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Psychiatry, Orthopaedics, Dermatology etc. It is in this phase that the students also have to choose an elective.
