Thapar Institute of Engineering and technology ranked 23 in India by NIRF Government of India rankings. Thapar is the 2 best private Engineering institute in India after BITS pilani. Placement at Thapar are awesome. Almost every student gets placements who were admitted to Thapar. Average package at Thapar is around 6.5 Lacs. The highest package is 40 Lacs.

Yes, what you have heard about the placements of Thapar University is true, the college placements as of now is not as worthy as it is in last 4 years, and this is due to lack of good teachers.

The minimum eligibility criteria is candidate need to have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with at least 60% marks (55% for SC/ST candidates) in aggregate of three subjects, namely, Physics, Mathematics and any one subject out of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology and Technical Vocational subject or Minimum 60% (55% for SC/ST candidates) marks in a Diploma recognised by AICTE or a state board of technical education of at least 3-year duration. The candidate has appeared in JEE (Main)-2019. The candidate possesses a good moral character. The candidate is a citizen of India. The candidate has passed 10+2 examination in 2017, 2018 or appearing in 2019.

Marks of 10+2 does not affect your ranking as it not counted.
From 2017 onwards, jee has removed, however 75% or top 20 percentile is the eligibility criteria for IIT.
